ABOUT US

EFMP identifies military family members with physical, emotional, developmental or intellectual impairments and provides referral information for medical, educational, housing, transportation, community and personnel support. EFMP works in conjunction with the Lyster Army Health Clinic EFMP representative.

The EFMP is a mandatory enrollment program for family members of an active duty soldier with any medical educational, or learning disability that requires special medical treatment, education, or counseling.

The Army will consider the special needs of enrolled exceptional family members during the assignment process and will attempt to assign the soldier to an area where the needs of the family member can be met. Failure to apply for enrollment may result in reassignment to a location that cannot meet a family member’s special medical/educational needs. Sanctions may be imposed against soldiers who knowingly conceal information about an EFM and fail or refuse to apply for enrollment.

The EFMP suggests that transferring soldiers with school-aged EFMs hand-carry the following when they PCS: a copy of the child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)/Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP),copies of any assessments/evaluations that have been performed, correspondence with school and medical staff, progress reports from service providers, medical records, shot records, birth certificates, medical and diagnostic records maintained by the previous school, and school progress reports/report cards.

REMEMBER!  Enrollment in EMFP does not adversely affect selection for promotions, schools, or assignments.  Information concerning enrollment in EFMP or any of the data used in the program is not made available to selection boards.
