Hunting and Fishing Information

To hunt or fish on Fort Rucker, each individual over the age of 16 years is required to have an Alabama state license and a Fort Rucker post permit, both available for purchase at the Outdoor Recreation Center. To purchase an Alabama state license at the Alabama state resident price, military personnel are required to provide a copy of orders of assignment to Alabama, along with their military identification card, driver license, and hunter safety education card. Without an Alabama driver license or copy of orders of assignment to Alabama, patron will be subjected to non-resident prices. Alabama residents over the age of 65 are not required to have an Alabama state license, but must have a Fort Rucker post permit. Ages 15 years and younger do not need a state license or a post permit. Please see the Fort Rucker AR 215-1 for regulations concerning hunting and fishing on Fort Rucker.

All State License and Post Permits are valid from September 1st – August 31st.

Youth & Challenged Sportsmen Program: This program provides special events for youth and challenged sportsmen. In the fall of each year, before deer season opens, ODR provides a special deer hunt for youth and challenged sportsmen. Youth fishing tournaments are held once a year in the spring. Just before turkey season, the installation works with the local community to host a youth and challenged sportsmen turkey hunt.

Hunter Education
All individuals hunting on Fort Rucker are required to have a Hunter Safety Education card, accepted from any state, Canada and Germany. If you do not have a hunter safety education card, courses on Fort Rucker are available. Please visit www.outdooralabama.com. Individuals must complete the on-line course (or CD-ROMs are available at the Outdoor Recreation Center) and take the completion certificate to the classroom instruction, for which individuals must register on-line, course filter DALE County. There is no cost for hunter education courses.
